Jujutsu Kaisen: Top 3 Theories Satoru Gojo Will Return

Satoru Gojo

The past few weeks have been hard for Jujutsu Kaisen fans as Satoru Gojo went through a LOT in both the anime and manga. In the anime’s second season, the Shibuya Incident arc reached a shocking climax as Gojo was captured in the Prison Realm. During the same week, the sorcerer’s battle against Ryomen Sukuna finally ended in an unexpected conclusion. Still, people believe that Gojo will be brought back and continue to play a major role in the story.

A Difficult Week for Satoru Gojo

In Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 9, Gojo engaged the Cursed Spirits in what appeared to be an easy fight. He quickly disposed of Hanami before going after Jogo but soon realized that something worse was coming. It doesn’t take long before Mahito unleashes hundreds of transfigured humans, forcing Gojo to use his Domain Expansion: Infinite Void. Although he manages to kill the transfigured humans in the span of 0.2 seconds, the exhausted Gojo is then confronted by Suguru Geto with the Prison Realm, which seals the sorcerer away.

It’s a hard watch for anime-only fans but not exactly a huge surprise for manga readers who already know what happens in Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Shibuya Incident arc. Still, mangaka Gege Akutami had a huge surprise for those fans as the manga’s Chapter 236 delivered an incredibly shocking twist via the regular leaks. Despite having the upper hand in the battle against Sukuna, Gojo is revealed to be bisected when the King of Curses utilizes the power of Mahoraga to get rid of Infinity.

Without revealing too much, anime fans can rest assured that Satoru Gojo will eventually return, albeit after three or four seasons. But manga readers are still immersed in uncertainty since Gojo’s injuries are clearly fatal. Nevertheless, there are a few theories holding on to hope that the sorcerer will recover and join the final battle against Sukuna.

Nanami’s Reminder

In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 236, Gojo reunites with some old friends, including Kento Nanami, who sat down to discuss the concept of the South and the North with his senior. The concept, which was once mentioned by Mei Mei, suggests that an individual can go in either direction after passing. A person should go south if they wish to remain as they are and stay true to their roots. On the other hand, if they wish to reinvent themselves, then they should go north.

By the end of the chapter, whether Gojo chose South or North is not revealed. However, many believe he might choose to go North and be reborn to see if his students successfully take down Sukuna.

Shoko Ieiri, It’s Your Time to Shine

She might be one of Gojo’s closest friends, but Shoko Ieiri continues to be one of the most underrated sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen. But what if Gojo’s seeming demise is the one way Ieri can prove her worth? Many believe that Ieiri will use her Reverse Curse Technique to help heal Gojo and ensure her friend’s survival. It is even possible that Ieri will get some help from Yuta Okkotsu, who also has similar abilities.

This is one of the popular theories since it appears to be the best option for now. But can Gojo actually revived after being cut in half? In this case, his own ability should give Ieiri and Okkotsu the push they need for his survival.

Did Gojo Use His Reverse Curse Technique?

They don’t call him the Strongest Sorcerer of his time for nothing; Satoru Gojo has skills, and one of them just happens to be his Reverse Curse Technique. It has helped him survive just about everything, from the near-fatal attack of Toji Fushiguro in the past to the massive onslaught brought about by Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine. Surely, Gojo managed to use the technique to preserve himself, at least for one last time in the manga, right? And since his head is still intact, maybe Gojo can still heal himself with the help of Ieri and Okkotsu while the battle continues for the remaining sorcerers against Sukuna.

These are all truly hopeful theories; fans have all the right to wish for Gojo’s recovery. In the meantime, there are bigger things at stake as the King of Curses faces off against Gojo’s students and friends. With that in mind, the fight continues, and all we can do is hope and wait for Gojo’s return in the next chapters.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 238 is now available to read on Viz Media. The 12th episode of the anime’s second season will premiere on October 13, 2023.
