The upcoming Tomb Raider anime series is set to be a new and exciting take on the beloved franchise. Produced by Legendary and published by Netflix, the series is expected to premiere in 2023.
Tomb Raider Anime Announcement
The Tomb Raider anime will follow Lara Croft as she embarks on a new adventure, continuing the story from the Survivor Timeline established in the recent video games. Not much else is known about the plot at this time, but showrunner Tasha Huo has described it as “a road trip adventure.”
Huo has also stated that the Tomb Raider anime will be a “true adaptation” of the video games and will feature all the things fans love about Lara Croft, including her intelligence, resourcefulness, and athleticism.
As the Tomb Raider anime might finally see the light of the day, we take this moment to look back at where it all started- the Tomb Raider games.
All the Tomb Raider Games in Order
1. 1996: Tomb Raider
A groundbreaking action-adventure game that introduced the world to Lara Croft, a British archaeologist and adventurer. The game follows Lara as she travels the world searching for the Scion, a powerful artifact that is said to grant immortality.
2. 1997: Tomb Raider II
A sequel to the original game, Tomb Raider II features more exploration, puzzles, and combat. This time, Lara is searching for the Dagger of Xian, a legendary artifact that is said to have the power to control time.
3. 1998: Tomb Raider III-Adventures of Lara Croft
The third game in the series, Tomb Raider III takes Lara to the lost city of Atlantis in search of the Infada Stone, a powerful artifact that can control the weather.
4. 1999: Tomb Raider-The Last Revelation
The fourth main game in the series, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation follows Lara as she travels to Egypt in search of the Amulet of Horus, a powerful artifact that is said to grant the wearer the powers of the Egyptian gods.
5. 2000: Tomb Raider Chronicles
A compilation game that features four new levels, as well as levels from the previous games in the series.
6. 2001: Tomb Raider- Curse of the Sword
A handheld game released for the Game Boy Color.
7. 2002: Tomb Raider- The Prophecy
A handheld game released for the Game Boy Advance.
8. 2003: Tomb Raider- The Angel of Darkness
The fifth main game in the series, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is a dark and gritty reboot of the franchise. Lara is now a fugitive, and she must clear her name while investigating a series of mysterious murders.
9. 2006: Tomb Raider- Legend
A reboot of the series, Tomb Raider: Legend follows Lara as she travels the world in search of Avalon, a mythical island that is said to be the resting place of King Arthur’s sword Excalibur.
10. 2007: Tomb Raider- Anniversary
A remake of the original Tomb Raider game.
11. 2008: Tomb Raider- Underworld
The sequel to Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Underworld follows Lara as she travels to the Arctic in search of the Hammer of Thor, a powerful artifact that is said to be able to control the weather.
12. 2010: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
A top-down cooperative action-adventure game. Lara and her Mayan companion Totec must work together to defeat the Guardian of Light and save the world.
13. 2013: Tomb Raider
A reboot of the series, Tomb Raider follows Lara on her first adventure as a young archaeologist. Stranded on a mysterious island, Lara must use her survival skills to stay alive and escape.
14. 2014: Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
A sequel to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris features four-player cooperative gameplay. Lara and her companions must work together to solve puzzles and defeat enemies in order to claim the treasure of the Egyptian god Osiris.
15. 2015: Rise of the Tomb Raider
The sequel to Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider follows Lara as she travels to Siberia in search of the Lost City of Kitezh, a mythical city that is said to be the source of immortality.
16. 2018: Shadow of the Tomb Raider
The sequel to Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider follows Lara as she travels to the jungles of South America in search of the Silver Box of Ix Chel, a powerful artifact that is said to be able to control the apocalypse.
17. 2023: Tomb Raider- Reloaded
A free-to-play mobile game featuring classic Tomb Raider gameplay.
