Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown had just secured the bag after re-signing with the C’s for a supermax contract. Brown, 26, is set to make the biggest contract in NBA history so far. But, with such a hefty amount from the Celtics, is JB really worth it?
Jaylen Brown’s Supermax Contract details
According to NBA insider Shams Charania and other sources, Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics have agreed to a 5-year/$304 Million supermax extension. In addition, the deal will be fully guaranteed which also has a trade kicker and will not include a player option year. This means that, for five years, Brown has already secured a huge payroll until 2029.

Is Jaylen Brown worth every penny?
Believe it or not, Jaylen Brown was previously in trade talks. There were rumors that the Boston Celtics will be moving him, and there were absolutely lots of offers from other teams. But, the city of Boston may have decided they want to keep JB now. Well, it probably is a good decision. Brown was selected as an All-Star last season, as well as getting the nod in the All-NBA 2nd team. Drafted third overall in 2016, the uber-athletic forward already had huge potential. Thanks to his immense development, he quickly turned into a star. The Celtics already have their cornerstone in Jayson Tatum, but sometimes, he falls out of the game. That is where Jaylen Brown comes in. In the 2023 NBA Playoffs, Brown did very well and oftentimes saved Tatum from a catastrophic playoff run.
Brown is undeniably the second-best player in his team. He can score at will and can also be a good defender. Despite his impressive talent, even the people from Boston criticize him due to his “lack of handles” and “unforced turnovers”. However, what the fans don’t see is that JB is constantly improving. The 26-year-old basketball player has developed a great shot (both from three and midrange) and has increased his productivity on the floor.

So, to answer the question if Brown really is worth it – We definitely think so. He may be a bit overpaid now, but kudos to him. The Celtics and his fans believe that Brown and Tatum can achieve more together in the coming years. They are young, healthy, and still have a long way to go. They haven’t reached their peak yet so who knows what damage they could do once they enter their prime? Extending Jaylen Brown is a wise choice for Boston. Keeping the core in the team – like what Golden State Warriors did in the early 2010s and the San Antonio Spurs in the 2000s – is essential for winning championships. But, with this kind of contract, we will have to expect that the Boston Celtics give more money to Jayson Tatum, who will become a free agent in 2026.
