What’s new in the latest trailer for Oppenheimer?

The new trailer for Oppenheimer shows us the close-knit community of scientists and engineers in Los Alamos, who lived in a secret location. We see dramatic fire clouds that hint at the epic scale of the movie when seen in 70mm format.

The trailer provides a better look at Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty. We also see a lot of Matt Damon, who plays Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project, shouting in a military uniform.

There are glimpses of a distraught Florence Pugh, and a black-and-white Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, the head of a security hearing in 1954 investigating Oppenheimer.

In the three-minute trailer, Oppenheimer mentions a race against the Nazis, Groves wonders about the potential to destroy the world, and Strauss asks Oppenheimer what comes next in a hearing requested by President Truman.

The trailer builds up suspense as it counts down to the test blast. We also get a glimpse of the atomic bomb test itself, which Christopher Nolan recreated without CGI.

High-profile cast and crew of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer

The star-studded cast of Oppenheimer includes Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Jack Quaid, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Josh Hartnett, Alden Ehrenreich, Rami Malek, Casey Affleck, Matthew Modine, Benny Safdie, and Tom Conti.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, who previously dealt with World War II in Dunkirk, Oppenheimer embraces his distinct mind-bending style. The movie was shot using 65mm film, both in IMAX and large-format, by cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, who has collaborated with Nolan since Interstellar. The score for the film was composed by Ludwig Göransson, acclaimed for his work on Tenet.

Oppenheimer release date and other details

The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin. Notably, both Bird and Sherwin are credited as writers alongside Nolan himself.

Despite having a budget of over $100 million, Oppenheimer is still one of Nolan’s cost-effective films in recent years. Moreover, Oppenheimer might become Nolan’s longest feature film thus far. The film reportedly boasts a runtime of approximately three hours.

Gear up for the worldwide premiere of Oppenheimer on July 21, 2023, alongside Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. With its talented cast, Nolan’s signature touches, and a compelling story set during World War II, it’s hard to go wrong with Oppenheimer.
