Hamas attacked Israel in surprise on Saturday, launching thousands of rockets, ravaging the towns near the Gaza Strip with hundreds of fighters, and kidnapping civilians and soldiers. This series of attacks resulted in thousands of deaths and still counting.
In his post, the Stranger Things star called these attacks “senseless,” revealing he was “truly heartbroken” to see the brutal murders of innocent people.
“I, like others, want peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. Let’s stop the rhetoric and choosing sides,” he wrote. “Instead, we must recognize that we are all on the side of the fight against terrorism. Choose humanity over violence.”
From there, he called out the people who are celebrating these deaths, as seen in the comments on his other post of a girl who died during the Saturday attack, asking for the freedom of Palestine. He called this a move to justify brutality against “innocent Israeli people,” adding they didn’t have to be Jewish or Israeli to have empathy and common sense to know what was wrong.
He also called out the social media silence about the issue, looking for the people who once used the platform to voice their support for Ukraine and climate change to say something about the Hamas attack.
Schnapp hoped everyone would agree that Hamas was a “recognized terrorist organization” that didn’t represent the Palestinian people. “You either stand with Israel, or you stand with terrorism. It shouldn’t be a difficult choice. Shame on you,” he continued.
