Casting rumors about DCU movies isn’t that new or surprising, but if we talk about the strangest, this one takes the cake. Recently, an X, formerly Twitter parody account Le Cinephiles, shared that adult film star Johnny Sins is going to play the renowned character of Lex Luthor in the upcoming movie Superman: Legacy. The parody duly caused havoc over the internet, and James Gunn had to step in to clear the air. In case you missed it, here’s what happened.
Adult film star Johnny Sins rumored to star as Lex Luthor
The casting for James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy was underway before the writer’s strike started. During this time, Gunn frequently acknowledged or refuted various claims about the star cast. As per reports, David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will join as Superman and Lois Lane, respectively. The filmmaker has also cast other heroes for the film, including Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrific, and Metamorpho.
- However, what remained was the casting of the antagonist, Lex Luthor. This allowed for the rumor that adult movie star Johnny Sins would play the famous nemesis in the highly anticipated flick. The rumor reportedly began as a parody because Sins are known for playing all sorts of characters, from doctors and cops to firefighters and even an astronaut.
- Some people also enjoyed the similarities in the visuals of the actor and comic-book villain, as both of them are bald. This rumor soon spread among the DCU fans, who began urging James Gunn to refute this claim.
James Gunn refutes the rumors
The filmmaker soon came to the assistance of the fans and clarified that Sins would not play Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy. He replied to a Tweet, “Oh my god, you can not possibly believe [the rumor].“ This flabbergasted response soon lifted the fog of chaos.
- Somewhat more surprising is that this isn’t the first time Sins was tangled in the rumors of playing Lex Luthor. Previously, when the announcement came that the famous nemesis would appear in Batman v Superman, the rumors that Sins would play Luther surfaced online.
- Back then, the rumors died down as a joke, but for some reason, they raised genuine suspicion among the DC-philes. Some have even claimed that perhaps the resemblance is starting to stick with the fans.
Still no response regarding Wonder Woman
Following the rumors of Johnny Sins playing Lex Luthor surfaced and died down, the questions regarding the casting of Wonder Woman spread again. While Gunn has cleared many rumors about his project, he hasn’t responded whether Gal Gadot will return as Wonder Woman.
- Gadot recently mentioned that she will return to the big screens as the titular character. However, a different report stated that her casting isn’t confirmed yet. Due to this, many await for Gunn to lift the curtain of mystery from the matter and either confirm or deny the rumors.
