Yexel Sebastian’s alleged ₱200 Million investment scam explained
Alleged victims of Yexel Sebastian’s scam came forward and asked for help from Philippine Senator Raffy Tulfo who hosts a show called “Raffy Tulfo in Action” which aims to help Filipinos who want justice. The segment featured several victims from different walks of life. According to them, Yexel Sebastian and Mikee Agustin influenced and encouraged them to invest a huge amount of money.
Apparently, some of them were asked for a ₱1 Million minimum deposit, while others were only required ₱200,000. The victims only found out after all of them got together since Yexel hadn’t been responding to their messages. They also noted that after sending the money, although they were given a contract, the paper says “contract of loan” and was already notarized by an attorney. Overall, Yexel was reportedly able to gather about ₱200 Million. Most of the victims were Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
In the same episode, Raffy Tulfo was able to reach Yexel Sebastian through the phone. Meanwhile, Yexel tried to explain that he was also a “victim” as he was just a mere investor. The accused revealed that all of the investors’ money was passed to a man named Hector Pantollana. Yexel also elaborated that the millions of pesos invested will be used to gamble in a casino junket owned by Pantollana himself. But, how did he entice the victims to quickly invest such a huge amount? Although some were skeptical at first, it’s believable that the promise of being given a monthly payout of about 3%-5% of their initial investments seems very tempting. Honestly, this feels and looks like a pyramiding scam.
Who is Yexel Sebastian and Mikee Agustin?
Yexel Sebastian is a Filipino YouTuber and influencer from Las Pinas, Philippines who is famous for flexing his rare and expensive toy collections online. He is also the brother of the late Jam Sebastian, who was also a famous YouTuber in the early 2010s. For years, he has been known to create content and videos about collector’s toys and his infamous toy museum. Yexel also boasts owning the largest Optimus Prime bust in Asia, alongside an impressive array of 900 life-sized statues which reportedly cost millions of Pesos. But, in 2019, he would tread in the same water as now after the controversial X-Deal scam.
On the other hand, his girlfriend, Mikee Agustin, is another influencer who first started as a member of the all-girl group Girltrends in the famous noontime show, It’s Showtime. After her stint on television, Mikee is still very active on social media.
Will Yexel face criminal charges?
The answer to this question is definitely YES. The victims can file criminal charges against the allegedly swindling couple. According to the National Bureau of Investigation, Yexel Sebastian and Mikee Agustin could be facing some time in jail if proven guilty. Under the Revised Penal Code (Act No. 3815) of the Philippines, Sebastian and Agustin can and will be sued for Estafa. Despite their defense that they were only investors and that the real scammer is Hector Pantollana, Yexel will not be safe from the hands of justice. According to attorney.org.ph, Due to the amount they swindled, the couple could face 20 years in prison.
But, even though the investigation is currently ongoing, Yexel Sebastian and Mikee Agustin were able to flee the Philippines. Sources have said that they flew to Nagoya, Japan following the alleged ₱200 Million investment scam. It’s odd that they were still given the right to travel and the only thing that the Department of Justice of the Philippines can do for now is to impose a “lookout bulletin” in case they return to the country.
