One Piece Live Action: Top 5 changes from the Manga

One Piece Live Action

One Piece Live Action is contending in a risky territory and has been doing well so far. If it strays too far off from the source material, it’ll be heavily criticized to no end. And if it adapts everything as it is, the tackiness will be painfully unbearable.

The creators have tried to keep the essence of One Piece intact while making creative changes to fit the concept of a Live Action. Based on the official trailer and the teaser, let’s take a look at the top 5 changes the Live Action will make from the manga.

One Piece Live Action: Top 5 Changes from the Manga

5. Garp at Logue Town

The trailer shows a brief glimpse of Garp. It seems like he’s present at the execution site of Gol D. Roger. In the manga, Garp wasn’t present in Logue Town. None of the vice admirals were. The live-action might introduce Garp sooner than the anime and the manga. We might also get the cover story where Garp is introduced in the manga as it’ll be a good way to introduce Garp.

4. “Help me, Luffy”

No One Piece fan is unbeknownst to the impact this particular scene had on the series. It is one of the scenes that can single-handedly prove the Live Action a hit or a miss. The scene takes place during the day in the original anime version and the manga.  In the remastered version of the anime, the sky is cloudy and dark.

As for the live-action, the scene takes place at night. While this is a small change, fans are making all sorts of speculations on why it was changed from day to night. As long as it doesn’t fail to display the emotions of frustration and hopelessness Nami experiences, this change won’t impact the story.

3. Character Designs

Manga and anime are limitless mediums as we’ve seen in One Piece. Eichiro Oda has given the Strawhats distinct features that have become their identities. The live-action has changed some of these distinct features, such as Sanji’s eyebrows and Usopp’s long nose. It’s impressive that despite losing their identifying characteristics, nobody can fail to recognize the characters.

This change from the manga is welcome, as their retention would have been too tacky. In terms of character designs, we can see different costumes as well.

2. Nami’s Introduction

In the live-action official trailer, we see Nami fighting with the Marines along with Zoro and Luffy. Nami’s introduction will be different from the manga. She gets introduced in chapter 8, where she tricks Buggy’s men and Zoro. In the live-action, the only way to explain her presence is that she will be introduced before Zoro and Luffy beat up the Marines.

1. Arlong at Baratie

It seems like the Live Action will introduce the Arlong Pirates in Baratie. This can prove to be a significant change based on the execution. The way we can expect it to happen is that Arlong Pirates kidnap Nami from Baratie and the rest of the events happen in the same way. The presence of Arlong is accompanied by the absence of Don Krieg. There has been no sign of Don Krieg in the promotional videos and visuals.

Conclusion

The One Piece Live Action has surprisingly built up the hype for the series. Most of the changes seem minor from the teaser and trailer, but their execution will decide how much they affect the overall story.
