Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 teased by Director: Will Peter Return? Possible Plot + Characters

Marvel's Spider-Man 3 teased by Director: Will Peter Return? Possible Plot + Characters - Featured

If you’re reading this, you’ve likely finished playing through Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, so what’s next? In a recent interview, Insomniac’s Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar seemingly teased their plans for Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, claiming that it would be “epic”. All that said, what will this mean for the next installment in the franchise? Will we see Peter return? Let’s take a look at all the possibilities of the next game. Be warned that this article will contain major story spoilers for Spider-Man 2, so read at your own risk!

Will there be a Marvel’s Spider-Man 3?

During an interview with Skill Up’s Friends Per Second, Intihar shared his experience with Insomniac and being handed the keys to the kingdom of Spider-Man. Though the interviewers promised viewers that it would be a spoiler-free discussion with Intihar, they couldn’t help but ask about the future of Spider-Man with Insomniac.

As he tried to answer the question without making any slip-ups, Intihar did say something that vaguely hinted at a Spider-Man 3.

“If Spider-Man 1 (2018) … and Miles (2020) were our Iron Man and Spider-Man 2 (2023) was like our Civil War, where do we logically go from there? I think it’d be pretty epic.

If we take a look at the MCU titles he used as a reference, Civil War happened during Phase Three of the MCU. During this movie, we saw Tony Stark and Steve Rogers square off against each other, kinda like how Miles’ relationship with Peter became strained because of the Symbiote’s influence.

Using Intihar’s reference to the MCU titles, the next Spider-Man game may be like Avengers: Endgame, where we’ll see the franchise’s most iconic characters leap into action. So, with all that said, Intihar and the rest of the gang over at Insomniac may be well on their way to making Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. The way the game ended also left us scratching our heads and wondering what’s next for our favorite web-swinging heroes.

The next part of the article contains major spoilers about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s story. Please read at your own risk!

How the ending perfectly sets up the next Spidey game

With the way Spider-Man 2 ended, it left us feeling two things: contentment and curiosity. Even though the story ended on a good note for everyone, we can’t help but wonder where the story will go next.

Peter’s Fate

  • It seems Peter might be taking an indefinite break from being New York City’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. After things start going back to normal, Peter shows MJ what he’s been working on in the garage and reveals the new HQ for the Emily-May Foundation. He seems keen on continuing the project he and Harry set up.

  • In order to devote his time and attention to the cause, Peter is passing on the torch to Miles.
  • As for his return, it’s likely that we’ll see Peter spring into action again. Miles is capable enough, but with the threat of Norman Osborn and his G Serum looming over the horizon, he may need to call for backup.

It’s All Up to Miles… and a new Spider-Person?

  • Miles also gets some screen time with Hailey, but what’s interesting about his post-credits scene is the introduction of Albert and Cindy Moon. Though these two characters may not mean much to casual fans, those of us familiar with the comic book version of Spider-Man know who Cindy Moon, AKA Silk, is.

  • According to her backstory, Cindy Moon was bitten by the same spider that bit Peter. This means they will share the same set of abilities, but Cindy’s combat skills may be more advanced, considering that she underwent training in martial arts.
  • The comics depict Peter and Cindy as the same age, but that doesn’t seem to be the case in Insomniac’s universe.
  • With Peter temporarily out of the picture, will she step in alongside Miles as they set out to save the day in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3?

Let There Be Carnage

  • Finally, the part where Insomniac says they’re not quite done with the Spider-Verse is Norman Osborn seeking the help of Otto Octavius.

  • Harry’s story ended when he was put in a coma after Miles successfully revived him, but that doesn’t mean Norman doesn’t want to exact revenge on the Spider-Men. Not after he thinks they’re to blame for what happened to Harry.

  • A familiar face in the form of the Red Goblin or Carnage may be the villain we go up against in the next Spider-Man game.
