The Last Of Us is heading to Television, thanks to HBO

The Last of Us HBO

A television adaptation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is in the works. Creative Director Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, the creator of the acclaimed series Chernobyl, are teaming up with HBO for the same.

In a statement to THR on Thursday, Neil said, “From the first time I sat down to talk with Craig I was equally blown away by his approach to narrative and his love and deep understanding of The Last of Us.”

“With Chernobyl, Craig and HBO created a tense, harrowing, emotional masterpiece. I couldn’t think of better partners to bring the story of The Last of Us to life as a television show.”

The show will narrate the original story from the first game. It is, however, possible for the creators to include certain events from The Last of Us Part II as well.

Writing on Twitter, Neil said, “Ellie and Joel are heading to HBO! But first… we got a little game to finish!”

Usually, the game creators don’t have direct involvement with adaptations, which is not the case this time around. Neil Druckmann will be writing and adapting his own game, along with others from Craig’s team for Home Box Office.

Chernobyl Executive Producer Carolyn Strauss will join Naughty Dog President, Evan Wells in producing the series. During May 2019, we reported the beginning of Sony’s new division, PlayStation Productions. Sony Pictures Television is co-producing this series with PlayStation Productions, making it the latter’s first televisions series.

PlayStation Productions is also working on a Twisted Metal series and the long-awaited Uncharted movie.
