NBA Draft 2023: Who’s going to be picked No. 2 – Brandon Miller or Scoot Henderson?

Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller 2023 NBA Draft

The 2023 NBA draft is just right around the corner. This year, there’s a whole lot of talent that is about to grace us in the NBA. But, only one thing is definitely sure – Victor Wembanyama is going to be the first overall pick. However, there’s a long list of talented and skilled young guys behind Wembanyama that are about to come into the league. With the Charlotte Hornets being awarded the No. 2 pick, who are they going to draft? Will it be the explosive point guard Scoot Henderson or will it be the tall shooting wing Brandon Miller? Both have already worked out for Charlotte and are also on the top of their class.

Scoot Henderson is probably the better player, but Brandon Miller is the better fit

The projected second overall pick, Scoot Henderson, was a beast in G-League Ignite. The explosive and uber-athletic point guard averaged 17.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game in the 2022-2023 season. Despite being only 6-foot-2, Henderson makes up for it with his athleticism and his finesse in finishing in the basket. The 19-year-old PG showed flashes of greatness when he faced Victor Wembanyama‘s Mets 92 in an exhibition game eight months ago. Obviously, Scoot’s body and skills are NBA-ready. However, with Charlotte Hornets getting the No.2 pick, there are doubts that Scoot Henderson will go second overall.

Scoot Henderson is a ball-dominant point guard, someone the Hornets already have – All-Star guard LaMelo Ball. With this, he is a good player, but it doesn’t seem very ideal to pair him with another All-Star caliber point guard in Ball. But, if Scoot develops a nice jump shot and plays off-ball, maybe he’d just be right for the team.

On the other hand, Alabama’s Brandon Miller might just be the perfect guy for Charlotte

The 6-foot-9 forward from the University of Alabama is a top-three prospect just behind Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson. The tall wing player who thrives in shooting threes while also being a hardcore defender is a hot commodity in today’s NBA. The Charlotte Hornets would need a guy like Brandon Miller on their roster. A player who can score at will without needing the ball too much and play a huge part on the defensive end.

In his freshman season with the Abalama Crimson Tide, Miller posted 18.8 points, 3.2 assists, and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting 38.4% from behind the arc. The 20-year-old college star sometimes looks like a Kevin Durant/Brandon Ingram prototype when he gets hot. Miller is also a pretty good shooter while coming off screens. Add that with his size and length, the 6-foot-9 wing is a remarkable athlete. Once he gets going, Miller is already a top-tier scorer in the league.

So, who should the Charlotte Hornets pick No.2?

Well, if you’re a GM who would want a better fit for your team, you’d immediately pick Brandon Miller. At a glance, Miller would complement LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges (if he comes back). Plus, he is the player that Charlotte could look for as a third option. Sometimes, the better player does not pan out especially if he does not fit into the system. So, if it were up to me, I’d take my chances on the 3-and-D player like Brandon Miller.
