The world will never have enough of JoJo Installments. Joestar enthusiasts, the wait is over! The next installment of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, The JOJOLands, has been released in Japan. And it unveils the latest protagonists in the ever-expanding Joestar universe. The unveiled new protagonist has us very curious however. In JojoLands, Is Jodio connected to Dio Brando?

Given all that, on February 16, 2023, the initial chapter of JoJoLands, the ninth part of Hirohiko Araki’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga series, was officially published. Though it’s uncertain whether this will be the conclusive part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. We have already extensively covered this in our previous article.

What is the new Manga JoJoLands First Chapter about?

The Protagonists

In The JOJOLands, we follow the high school adventures of two Joestar brothers, Jodio Joestar and Dragona Joestar, who already possess their own Stands.

In addition to the setting, the most thrilling element of the inaugural chapter was the main character of JojoLands Jodio Joestar.

  • While its full capabilities are yet to be revealed, Jodio has already used it to unleash a deadly torrent of rain that drops a flurry of ball bearings on opponents.
  • Although the first chapter doesn’t mention his paternal heritage, many fans speculate that the inclusion of “dio” in Jodio’s name may imply a Brando lineage in the upcoming plot.

How many pages are there in JoJoLands First Chapter?

Set in Hawaii, creator Hirohiko Araki returns to script and illustrates the ninth story arc of this enduring series. What may appease you, reader, is that the first chapter alone boasts over seventy pages of content.

  • This naturally presents an abundance of fresh Manga content to explore. And for those veteran readers who are quite used to most Manga chapters not having more than 40 pages, it is a fresh new world out here.
  • Although we do not expect the consequent each chapter to contain similar (to 70) page numbers. Often the premiere/debut Manga chapter of any new franchise does so with prolonged content. The same is observed with one hour special Anime episodes for the debut.

Even though there is currently no official or unofficial English translation available to global readers, certain specifics from the inaugural chapter are being debated on internet forums. Especially Reddit and Twitter (Although they aren’t technically Forums per se).

The Plot

In the introductory JojoLands chapter 1, the brothers are stopped by dubious police officers. This provides them with the ideal opportunity to display their Stands – “November Rain” and “Smooth Operator”.

Both of them possess some of the most eccentric abilities to date amongst the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure protagonists.

  1. November Rain sets itself apart from the Stands of previous Joestar protagonists by its appearance, which is reminiscent of a spider-humanoid hybrid, lacking fists to deliver machine-gun-like attacks.
  1. Meanwhile, Dragona’s Stand, “Smooth Operator,” comprises tiny beings capable of moving objects effortlessly along a smooth surface, which created a horrifying scene for the police officer who threatened them, as the Joestar could move his eyes to a different spot on his face.

The protagonist’s name, “JoDIO,” has led many fans to speculate whether there is a connection between this alternate Joestar and the infamous franchise villain, Dio Brando.

A Post-Covid American Society?

Dragona and Jodio are the maternal cousins of Yoshikage Kira, who is one-half of the JoJoLion protagonist, Josuke “Gappy” Higashikata. Apart from that, JoJoLands appears to be set in a modern-day American society.

Dragona expresses concern over COVID, but police officers, school students, employees, and most of the general cast are depicted without masks.

Is JoDio connected to Dio?

It’s not possible to say this with official conformity. This is a potential storyline that could be developed as the story progresses.

However to begin with, they (JoDio) belong to Joseph (Fumi)’s lineage, which is where they diverge from Kira’s family. It’s difficult seeing how Dio may have implanted his seeds into this heritage. Although if it’s Dio, I wouldn’t be that doubtful.

As of yet, there’s no official confirmation on the Dio and JoDio connection. But we will keep you posted.

Concluding

That gives you a gist of what the first JoJoLands Chapter was all about. Coming forward, what kind of an antagonist are you expecting? Can we also possibly see a Dio connection in the JoDio name taking antagonistic turn? We will find out. And so will you if you keep posted with us.
