Apple has been a leading name in the tech industry for years, and its iMac series has been a popular choice for personal and professional use. New iMac Releasing This Year
So, what can we expect from a new iMac release this year? According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing two new 24-inch iMacs for release in late 2023 or early 2024. Gurman also indicates that a replacement for the iMac Pro is in the works and will have a 30-inch display.
Another exciting piece of news from Bloomberg’s Chief Correspondent was tweeted on his Twitter, in which he stated:
- The first M3 Macs are coming.
- The first Macs with M3 are the 13-inch MacBook Air, iMac, and 13-inch MacBook Pro.
- The iPad Pro will also get the M3 next year.
The current iMac models are some of the few remaining M1 Macs, and with Apple already well into the launch of the second generation of Apple silicon, it makes sense that Apple will soon update the iMac with an M2 or M3 chip.
- Rumors suggest that Apple will skip the M2 and move straight to the M3 for the next iMac release.
- The M3 chips aren’t expected until late 2023 or early 2024, meaning we could be waiting until 2024 for the new M3 iMac.
The new iMac is also rumored to have design-related changes on the inside, with some internal components relocated and redesigned. According to Gurman, “the manufacturing process for attaching the iMac’s stand is different,” based on his sources.
Release Date
The new M3-powered Macs are at an advanced stage of development, but they’re not expected to go into mass production for at least three months. Gurman also indicated that the new iMac won’t ship until the second half of the year at the earliest.
New iMac Rumored Price
There has been no discussion revealing the pricing of the new iMac. However, it’s safe to assume that the new iMac will be a bit higher than the 2021 iMac, which was first priced at $1,299.
Processor and Specs
Gurman has repeatedly claimed that Apple will bypass the M2 and move straight to the M3 chip for the next generation of the 24-inch iMac. He also spotted the M3 Pro in testing, with the specs below:
- 12-core CPU
- 18-core GPU
- 36GB RAM (up from 32GB)
Display
- 12MP Ultra Wide camera with a 122-degree field of vision
- 1080p FaceTime HD camera that comes with the iMac
- Center Stage, the function that keeps you centered as you walk, is probably going to be included in the new iMac
Ports
The rumored ports are:
- Two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports
- 3.5mm headphone jack built into the side
- A Gigabit ethernet jack is built into the power adapter on the higher-end models, which costs an extra $30 on the entry-level model
- It’s unlikely that we’ll receive HDMI or an SDXC card port like on the MacBook Pros and Mac Studio due to the device’s tiny frame
