Ashley Leechin Taylor Swift prank gets backlash

Taylor Swift’s look-alike and TikTok personality, Ashley Leechin, dropped her latest prank that gained her some Bad Blood from the pop singer’s fans. Leechin is famous for impersonating the 33-year-old star by dressing up in similar outfits. Some of her videos on social media capture instances where a fan would approach her for an autograph and she would disclose that ‘I’m Ashley’. However, her recent prank didn’t pass the check of Swifties and made her an Anti-Hero.

On Saturday, August 19, Leechin visited LA’s The Grove shopping area accompanied by a bunch of men dressed up in black to look like her bodyguards. She wore a red leather cap, white T-shirt, jeans, and dark shades completely ready to prank the fans.

  • In the short video titled Fake Taylor Swift Prank, Ashley soon gathers a good crowd with her impersonating skills. The fans ask for her autograph and selfie while she smiles at them politely as she is escorted out of the area by her bodyguards.
  • Following the success, she decides to visit Downtown Disney to continue her streak with YouTuber Victor Galvan. She changes her look a little by swapping for a pink cap and black top. Her prank works wonderfully for fans who didn’t think they would run into Taylor Swift in their Wildest Dreams, approach for an interaction.
  • Eventually, the successful impersonator admits that she is Ashley. This unmasking shocks the fans and many burst out laughing. However, once the prank is uploaded on Instagram and gets viral, Swifties found the impersonating tasteless.

The anti-defamation petition of the content creator

This isn’t the first time Ashley Leechin gets onto the wrong side of the fans. Previously, Swifties have asked her to stop trying to live through someone else’s fame. Ashley defended herself by stating that it isn’t unnatural to gravitate towards celebrities and take their style as an inspiration for your everyday outfits. The social media personality added that she is doing what everyone does.

  • However, the cyberbullying continued due to which she set up an anti-defamation petition on Change.org. The description reads that the petition intends to stop cyberbullying and harassment of people like her.
  • She also introduces herself stating that she and her husband are parents of two children, and she also has a cat family. Ashley further clarifies that she is a certified nurse, an aspiring actress, and a content creator, but she doesn’t have any intentions to pursue music.

While her intentions are pure, the recent prank especially garnered her backlash due to its public and safety hazards. It also came wrongly as when Ashley was filming her prank, the Enchanted singer was mobbed by fans who recognized her at Jercy shore when she was attending the wedding of her friend, Jack Antonoff.
