MInecraft - Update 1.17 All Details and Patch notes

With over 140 million active monthly users, Minecraft is one of the most played games in the world, and with the recent 1.17 Update, it’s bound to move further up. The update is now available to download on PS4, PC, and Xbox One and it adds Amethyst Geodes, various tweaks, and fixes to the game. So here we are with all the details you need.

There have been many additions to the game involving Amethyst and Geodes which are as follows:

  • Amethyst Geodes – They can be found anywhere underground in the Overworld and have three layers
  • Calcite, Tuff, and Smooth Basalt have been added
  • Amethyst Clusters – They grow from Budding Amethyst, which can be found inside geodes and have four growth stages, namely Small Amethyst Bud, Medium Amethyst Bud, Large Amethyst Bud, and Amethyst Cluster
  • Budding Amethyst – A Small Amethyst Bud will eventually grow on any side of a Budding Amethyst block, where there is air or a water source block
  • Clusters Amethyst Blocks – They create beautiful sounds when you walk on them, break them, place them, or hit them with a projectile
  • Tinted Glass – It does not allow light to pass through and is crafted by putting a Glass block in the middle of four Amethyst Shards
  • Amethyst Shards have been added as well

Creative Inventory

Many items are now available in the creative inventory including:

  • Crystals – Amethysts, Amethyst Shards, Amethyst Cluster Variants, Amethyst Buds, Budding Amethysts, Tuff Blocks, Calcite, Smooth Basalt, Spyglass, and Deepslate
  • Lush Cave blocks
  • Copper and Lightning Rod
  • Powder Snow

Caves and Cliffs experimental toggle

The following items are now available outside the Caves and Cliffs experimental toggle:

  • Updated the axolotl and glow squid spawn rules. They can now spawn in any biome and up to y=63 instead of y=30

Powder Snow

  • Using a Bucket of Powder Snow on a Cauldron filled with Powder Snow results in a Powder Snow block being placed above the Cauldron
  • Cauldrons fill up in snowy weather, creating a renewable source of Powder Snow.
  • Most mobs cannot walk on Powder Snow, but fall into the block instead
  • Mobs inside a block of Powder Snow start to freeze and eventually take damage
  • Players can protect themselves from Powder Snow by equipping leather armor
  • Buckets can be used to scoop up and place Powder Snow
  • Fall damage is now correctly prevented when a player or mob falls on a single powder snow block

Glow Lichen

  • Glow Lichen is now visibly as close to the surface it is placed on as Java Edition.
  • Additionally, Glow Lichen now has a map color that more closely resembles the color of the block.

These were the major changes after the update, though numerous minor changes can be noticed throughout the game. Apart from this, there have been many general tweaks and bug fixes as well.

  • One of the major changes is that players can once again host multiplayer games and send invites over mobile/cellular data.
  • The appearance of the loading screen has been updated as well.
  • Android can once again see invite notifications and achievement toasts.
  • An issue with certain blocks which could cause them to grow too quickly when ticked was fixed.
  • A bug where mobs would not spawn below y=0 when the Caves and Cliffs experimental toggle is enabled was fixed.
  • Fixed issue where Fireworks of all colors could be crafted from any other color of Firework Charges.
  • Fixed animation issue causing an off-hand held shield to appear to re-equip whenever the player changes their main-hand item.
  • The ‘/setworldspawn’ command is now prohibited in legacy worlds. Also, the affected worlds will reset their altered spawn positions to the original position.
  • A lot of other technical problems related to items, mobs, and graphics, reported by the fans have been fixed as well.
