Easy Fix
It is simply a matter of updating the game if you are only a guest on the server. It should update automatically, but you may need to force it if you schedule updates for odd times when you think you’re sleeping.
- Go to your Steam library.
- Right-click Valheim.
- Choose “Properties”.
- Select “Updates” from the drop-down menu.
- Select “Download and Install Updates”.
The procedure is a little more difficult if the server needs to be updated.
Here’s how to make a script to force the server to update so you can run it whenever the error occurs:
- Download and install SteamCMD. You can get it HERE.
- Go to the folder where you installed Valheim.
- Create an empty text file.
- Change its extension from .txt to Update.bat
- Open the file and type the following:
[SteamCMD directory] + login anonymous + force_install_dir [Valheim installation directory] + app_update 896660 validate + exit
- Run the file.
